The Secret to Saving Money on Paint
It took 5 times as long to restore the Sistine Chapel than it originally took Michelangelo to paint it. Let us attempt to save you more money than they saved time.
The good thing about this project is that the girls and I can paint together! My husband can finally take a little break from working on the dog kennel. We found some well used clothes and the girls were grasping old brushes while smiling from ear to ear.
The secret to saving money on paint is…
- Combine as many old colors together as possible! The deep brown is a mixture of three different paints, and the lighter color is some old exterior primer.
- BUT if you don’t have any extra on hand… at the Home Depot, you can choose ANY color from the more expensive brands, and have them mix your desired color with affordable Behr paint. Consumer reports has repeatably rated Behr paint as #1, despite it being more affordable.
The kennel is definitely not looking the greatest right now, but the mix of old cans will provide a good base layer to protect the siding from rain. After this we did purchase some red!
We are loving this barn red color! It was chosen because we are eventually going to add a red barn to our property. What color would be best for your kennel?
