As part of Step #3… this kennel needs some siding! Most of these pictures speak for themselves, but this siding is 4×8 Smart Siding. It was attached with 8d galvanized nails. The following picture is showing straight edges marked with pencil to make nailing directly into the studs easier.
Concrete board is on the top of the east side of the building because we will be adding pens there first. The dogs will be less likely to chew on concrete board. It would have been beneficial to put concrete on the entire wall, but to save costs we did the top half. I’m lucky my husband has had a board of this concrete for 4 years!
The metal flashing is called “z bar flashing.” It protects the wall by stopping water from going in between the crack of the two different types of sidings.
As you can see the lines of the siding are running vertical. To save costs my husband is going to rotate the siding at the top of the building and run the lines horizontal.
Total Cost of Siding
My husband already had two sheets on hand, and he rotated siding at the top of the building to save costs.
Once the siding is finished I get to paint! Our toddlers will love it!
